Ever since I started translating, it's always been a bit of a concern of mine... How do I protect my job? My good reputation? My identity as a certified translator?
With digital photo software it has been too easy to copy our ink stamps and signatures and place them on an unsanctioned, second-rate translation. Having my signature on file with DFAT wouldn't eliminate this problem. Thankfully, I have never been alerted to an illegal copy of my NAATI stamp.
Now, however, we are one step closer to protection against the fraudulent use of our seals. All currently certified translators can download their own personalised digital stamp and QR code to place on an electronic translation. The QR codes are regenerated every single day, so even if one was copied from a previous translation (from days or months before) that fell into nefarious hands, once that QR code was scanned, it would show that the date did not match the supposed date of the fraudulent translation.
